House Concurrent Resolution 159: Recognizing the fifth anniversary of the declaration by the United States Congress of genocide in Darfur, Sudan
Purpose: This resolution:
- Recognizes the fifth anniversary of the declaration by the United States Congress of genocide in Darfur
- Urges the United States to work with other nations to support a negotiated settlement to the conflict
- Expresses regret that the determination of genocide has not yielded effective action on the part of the United Nations and other nations which maintain significant influence in Sudan, including China and Arab League members

House Resolution 3081: Making appropriations for the Department of State, foreign operations, and related programs for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2010, and for other purposes
Purpose: This legislation provides the following funding to address the crisis in Darfur:
- $512 million for the UN-AU hybrid peacekeeping force in Darfur (UNAMID)
- $45 million for U.S. programs to train and equip African militaries to participate in UNAMID
- $830 million in International Disaster Assistance to address global humanitarian crises, including in Darfur
- $251.35 million for the UN peacekeeping force in Sudan (UNMIS)
Status: Approved by the House 318-106 on July 9, 2009. Awaiting consideration by a House-Senate conference committee.
Action: Call or write your Representative urging them to reject any cuts to Darfur funding in the final House-Senate conference report for H.R. 3081.
Senate Bill 1434: An original bill making appropriations for the Department of State, foreign operations, and related programs for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2010, and for other purposes
Purpose: This legislation provides the following funds to address the crisis in Darfur:
- $2.125 billion for Contributions to International Peacekeeping, including funds for the UN-AU hybrid peacekeeping force in Darfur (UNAMID) and the UN peacekeeping force in Sudan (UNMIS)
- $855 million for International Disaster Assistance to address global humanitarian crises, including in Darfur
- $6.632 billion for Diplomatic and Consular programs, including funding for the Office of the Special Envoy for Sudan and other diplomatic initiatives for Sudan
Status: Approved by the Senate Committee on Appropriations on July 9, 2009. Awaiting floor consideration.
Action: Call or write your Senate and urge them to protect funding for Darfur programs at current levels when the bill is considered by the full Senate.
House Resolution 241: Commending the International Criminal Court for issuing a warrant for the arrest of Omar Hassan Ahmad al-Bashir, President of the Republic of Sudan, for war crimes and crimes against humanity, and expressing the hope that this will be a significant step in the long road towards achieving peace and stability in the Darfur region
Purpose: This resolution:
- Commends the International Criminal Court for issuing an arrest warrant for Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir;
- Condemns the expulsion of international aid agencies, which further threatens the lives of over 1.1 million people who depend on these organizations for food, water, health care, and safety;
- Calls upon the international community to persist in its efforts to bring President al-Bashir to justice and to pressure the Government of Sudan to cease its campaign of violence;
